Rooms and shelves

Map where stock is kept, from each location down to a room, cabinet, shelf or bin.

Storage nodes map the places your stock sits, from each location down to a single shelf or bin. A lot then has an address, not just "somewhere in the supply room", and anyone on the team can find it.

Account admins set up storage nodes. Open Account Settings at the foot of the sidebar, then Inventory. This is not the stock list, which has its own row in the sidebar: it is where the places stock is kept are laid out.

How the tree works

Each location is a row with a building icon. Its rooms, cabinets, shelves and bins sit indented below it, for example:

  • Location
  • Room
  • Cabinet
  • Shelf
  • Bin

Nodes can nest up to six levels below a location. The arrow beside a row opens or closes what is inside. The number on the right counts the lots kept in that node and everything beneath it.

Click a row itself, not its arrow, to open its details on the right:

  • Node Name and Node Id, the short code you gave it, such as SR-01.
  • Parent Node, the node it sits in, and a Description.
  • Allow Inventory in This Level, which says whether items can be put away at this level. Rooms usually stay off, shelves and bins are on.
  • Sub Nodes, what sits directly inside, each with its lot count. A node with nothing inside says No Sub Node Yet.

Click a sub node to step one level down. Its Parent Node line names the node you came from.

Add a room, cabinet or shelf

  1. Click where the new node goes. Pick a location to add a room inside it, or a room, cabinet or shelf to add something deeper.
  2. Press Add Node. Inside an existing node the form is titled Add Sub Node, with the parent named across the top.
  3. Fill in Node Name, the only required field. Node Id is an optional short code that must be unique. Parent Node is already set to what you picked.
  4. Switch Allow Inventory in This Level on if stock will be put away here.
  5. Press Save Changes, or Cancel to leave without saving.

The new node appears under its parent at once, with a count of 0. If the Node Id is already taken, the form stays open and says so.

At the deepest level, Add Node is greyed out and the Sub Nodes card says Reached Maximum Node Level. That node can still hold stock.

Rename or move a node

  1. Click the room, cabinet, shelf or bin you want to change.
  2. Press Edit Node. The same form opens, filled in.
  3. Change the name, code or description, or switch Allow Inventory in This Level.
  4. To move the node, pick another Parent Node. It takes its sub nodes and their stock with it. The list only offers places it can go.
  5. Press Save Changes. It stays off until something is different.

The tree updates as soon as you save, and the counts on the old and new parents change too.

Find a node by name

Type part of a name in Search node. The tree turns into an A to Z list of every node whose name matches, across all your locations. Clear the box to get the tree back.
